Building confident, motivated teams.

In our leadership training, we cover a variety of topics including communication, managing change, building trust, conflict resolution, creativity and innovation as well as building a team identity and effective leadership strategies. The participants will learn techniques of creating highly motivated and committed teams through the use of discussions, activities and typical scenarios in child care settings. 

Who should attend?
Directors, Assistant Directors, Team Leaders, Executive Director and Board Members. This training is specifically for CDS's and Board Members.


I Am the Director Now What

Whether you wanted the promotion to director or were encouraged by others, it's your title now. Come and learn how to accept your role as a director, gain respect of the people you supervise and make an impact on the people you supervise.

Participants will learn:

  1. How to accept your role as a director

  2. How to use your skills in working with children as a basis for directing adults

  3. How to feel comfortable when people treat you differently because you are the director.    

  4. How to gain the respect of the people you supervise and your supervisor.

  5. How to create an impact on more adults and children as a director.


 
 

Help Adults to Succeed

Helping adults succeed is a journey which occurs over a period of time. This workshop will show directors how to help staff succeed by practicing DAP for adults, setting realistic expectations, and overcoming barriers to success.

Participants will learn:

  1. That adults innately want to succeed.

  2. How to set realistic expectations and communicate  effectively.

  3. How to communicate your expectations in a clear, and specific manner.

  4. How to coach staff to success.

  5. The difference between an excuse and a barrier.


 
 

Create a Culture That Encourages Input and Allows for Mistakes

As a leader your greatest strength is the staff. When a director's team is actively engaged in performing their responsibilities and looking for ways to improve their skills, then you are doing your job; you are motivating and teaching adults. During this workshop participants will learn how to create a safe place for staff to provide input, and perform their best.

Participants will learn:

  1. How to create a culture that encourages input and allows for mistakes

  2. How to gain the perspective of others

  3. How to create an environment where people feel safe to share their thoughts.

  4. How to provide opportunities for staff to vent.


Motivating Adults Through Delegation

Adults are motivated when they have competent leaders who help them succeed, and good delegation is part of that success. Come and learn how to delegate, and learn that there is more than one way to get things done.

Participants will learn:

  1. How to empower others to learn and grown through delegation.

  2. How to utilize the skills and talents of each employee

  3. How to allow employees to use their own ideas and creativity to get the job done

  4. How to maintain accountability.


Communicating Consistently and Honestly 

As Early Childhood Educators we are usually very nurturing people, sensitive to the feelings of others and eager to resolve or avoid conflict. These are great traits, especially when caring for children. Sometimes, however, these nurturing traits and tendencies to avoid conflict help us from communicating honestly with each other. During this workshop participants will learn how, what and when to honestly communicate with staff.

Participants will learn:

  1. How to communicate honestly and consistently.

  2. How to observe, document and consult with staff

  3. How to help even if it is difficult.

  4. Ways to communicate information.

  5. How to effectively run a meeting.


Follow Through 

There are lots of reasons why we don't follow through. It's easy to become overwhelmed, excited, and anxious all at the same time when we think about improving the child care program. As director's you need to stop living in the "as soon as" and work with where your program is right now. In this workshop participants will learn how to cope, prioritize, track and manage their time.

Participants will learn:

  1. How to identify and use their time.

  2. How to set priorities.

  3. How to aim for excellence, not perfection.

  4. How to create a system to organize your time.

  5. That following through sets a good example for employees.


Stay Connected

The staff of a child care program are its greatest asset, without them there would be no program. During this workshop participants will learn how to get to know their employees and provide consistent recognition. Participants will also learn how to deal with problems before they arise and build employee relationships.

Participants will learn:

  1. How to see every employee as important.

  2. The importance of supervisory praise.

  3. How to take the time to recognize the staff for a job well done.

  4. How to address problems before they occur.

  5. How to build employee relationships.


Set the Tone

Who sets the tone, the feeling you get when you walk into a centre or play room? The director does. As a leader, your attitude sets the tone of the environment. In this workshop participants will learn how to set a positive tone in a child care centre and what should  they do when others are disrespectful.

Participants will learn:

  1. How to set the tone in the work environment

  2. What makes a genuine work environment.

  3. To ensure they enjoy their job and have fun.

  4. The 8 steps to managing demanding situations and difficult people.

  5. How to celebrate successes.
